By implementing a system called account-based ticketing (ABT), PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is preparing to reduce the cost of individual journeys, which will be in line with economic conditions and KTP domestic passengers.
The introduction of account-based ticketing (ABT) isn’t just planned for TransJakarta’s public transportation but also LRT and MRT will introduce account-based tickets.
Syafrin Liputo, the head of DKI Jakarta’s Department of Transportation, stated that setting a transport tariff based on a person’s economic situation would not be possible soon.
Syafrin clarifies balance is still kept in the program. Passengers can update their card at any time by simply entering it again and the balance will then be restored. Passengers won’t ever again lose their cards or their balance because of this.
The integration of the ticket payment system for all means of transportation run by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is the goal of the implementation of ABT. Through this connection, customers will be able to purchase TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT Jakarta tickets on the JakLingko application.
According to reports, this system has begun testing and will soon be made available on Playstore through the JakLingko app. Later, passengers will use a QR Code to complete travel-related purchases.
ABT adoption will also make it easier to identify those who utilize public transit, including both Jakarta’s and people from the neighborhood (Bodebek). This will make Public Service Obligation (PSO) estimates more accurate, allowing for more targeted and exact distribution of transportation subsidy aid.
Although there was controversy over ABT’s introduction in the past since it was believed to raise transportation rates, economic status-based tariff adjustments have not yet been put into place.
The TransJakarta rates are still in effect and have not changed. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can decide to adjust the rates, and it’s implementation would need more research.
TransJakarta’s move to differentiate fares is also intended to get Jakarta ready to lose its designation as a Special Capital Region. As a result, Jakarta will also stop receiving the particular government assistance it had previously received as the National Capital.
The annual operating cost of TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT transit is around 4 IDR7 trillion. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government invests over IDR4 trillion every year in PSO to keep the cost of public transportation reasonable. (AKR/NBL)
