The fear of missing out (FOMO) phenomenon among Gen Z is now shifting in a much more positive direction, driven by the surge in running activities at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex. While FOMO was once synonymous with consumerism or hanging out late into the night, this drive to “not miss out on trends” is now motivating young people to adopt an active lifestyle. Every afternoon and weekends, thousands of Gen Z youth flock to the GBK jogging track in stylish running jerseys and shoes, transforming the curiosity sparked by social media feeds into a real, healthy habit that also serves as a way to relieve stress amid their busy daily schedules.

Beyond its physical benefits, the running trend at GBK is fostering a social ecosystem well-suited to the younger generation. The rise of local running clubs and the practice of sharing workout stats on social media platforms like Strava have created a supportive and inclusive space for socializing. Aesthetically pleasing content is no longer merely about showing off, but rather a form of self-appreciation and a way to inspire others toward healthier habits. Ultimately, this phenomenon demonstrates that when FOMO is channeled constructively, following a trend can serve as a meaningful first step toward improving Gen Z’s physical and mental well-being.(JRM/SK)
